Building a villain to create persuasive blog posts

Supervillians
Superhero movies and TV shows are enjoying a lot of screen time these days. The fact that they are more popular now than ever before is beyond doubt. What makes them so popular and what do they have to do with creating persuasive blog posts?

Well, it is the same thing that makes a great James Bond movie and why blog posts can be persuasive. The villain.

We all love to hate the villain in these movies.  We love watching the good guys get the upper hand after suffering setback after setback. We love watching the hero defeat the bad guy.

Like the Bond movies, DC and Marvel movies and TV shows have some great villains. To counter these we have the hero of the story.  The villain defines this hero and shapes the narrative of the story being told to us. The villain is the reason we watch, and read, in the first place.

Build your villain to create persuasive blog posts

You probably think that the above has nothing to do with blog posts, websites or sales but it does. The usual point of a post is to address the reader’s problem and solve it. One way of doing this is to imagine your post to be a superhero vs supervillain story.

The reader’s issue plays the part of the villain and your product or service is the hero. Build the problem (maybe the reader has stubborn stains in their curtains that just won’t budge)as being a scourge that the planet needs to be rid of, and the superhero just happens to be the service or product that you are able to provide or supply.

Persuasive blog posts keep readers engaged and coming back for more, that is just a fact. By turning that stubborn stain into a villain instead of just abother problem makes the reader feel their problem is being taken seriously and creates a connection between them and you.

Your business provides more than a one size fits all solution, it needs to be projected as a custom experience. A hero that everybody can look up to, someone that be called upon to slay the dragon peeing on people’s curtains.

Persuasive blog posts can be tailored in this way for any business type, wesite design and any tone of voice – you just need to be a little creative. Questions? Contact me or leave a comment.
